everything is temporary- materials, people, relationships with others, time, our own lives. A human flaw is that we are creatures of emotion and get attached to certain things depending on our desires at the time, and that if they are lost or taken away, we feel immense suffering and resent. I think I must learn to not take anything personally and to be self-reliant so I won’t depend on things or others to fulfill me. If they can give, they can always take away easily. However, their presence in my life has its purpose and for that reason, I must cherish it with love and respect. Once that is gone, out of their own will or the will of nature, I must not hate or resent it.

Epiphany--Self development and Love

Self development/Love… they seem to be two completely different ideas but I realize recently that you cannot have one without the other. I learn more about myself through love and love more through learning more about myself. They are intertwined. Perhaps that is why all scriptures, regardless of religion, identify “God”, the fully-developed embodiment of all things, as “all-loving”. Whoever wrote the scriptures must have a full understanding of the universe and what it means in being a “full person” since they know that only developed people can truly love selflessly.

On that note, it sheds light into why some people are selfish or why some are hateful- it is simply because they haven’t fully developed yet. It is sad to know that this type of development does not occur with age, and that some people reach this as a child while others never reach it in their physical presence in the world. However, God/universe does not discriminate. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me that humans are born incomplete and imperfect. It is a necessary stage in becoming complete and perfect. All the negative actions we commit to ourselves and others hurt, and since we all have a natural conscience, the hurt inflicts suffering and emptiness, until we learn to mould ourselves into better beings out of avoidance of that suffering and emptiness. Only through this do we become spiritually full and developed, meanwhile learning more about the nature of love. Perhaps this explains why God/universe is so merciful, because it understands the faults of being human as a necessity.

7:30 Go Train

The GO train can be so boring sometimes. People with their wooden faces, expressionless; reading, napping, whispering, or just staring out the windows. Try talking in a normal voice in the train and you automatically get stares and frowns… people should just chill out!

In the midst of all this, I thought of a story. It played out in my mind but I never wrote it down yet.
There are many religions and spiritual paths that involve worship of the goddess, the god, or the duality of the goddess and the god. These systems have their own perspectives on what each deity and its respective gender represent.

In tibetan buddhism, renunciation is best translated as “emergence from false refuge”. Now as you may know, when you commit to buddhism you also commit to taking refuge in The Three Treasures: the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha.

So what does it mean to take refuge in anything? What does…

So many changes happening that I find...

It’s been a while since I’ve writtin in this blog. So many changes happening that I find it hard to catch up sometimes.

This winter has not been so joyful. I’ve lost things I know I can never retrieve, whether through my fault or uncontrollable circumstances. I wanted to start all over again, right back to square one.

Just when I was about to do so, I had a great conversation with a complete stranger that turned my life around. I went into Service Canada to get some career help and advice, and the person who works there talked to me so much about work and life in general that I stepped out feeling renewed and happier. The most important thing I got out of the conversation was not letting past experiences and my own self-doubt hold me back from achieving my goals. It seems so obvious, but when you’re lost, it’s hard to understand.

I decided to continue where I left off. I started applying to HR or recruiting jobs again, and surprisingly, got a lot of calls back! Each screening/interview opportunity unveiled another layer about myself and my dream job. It made me so much more aware. I’m also learning the virtue of patience instead of rushing into something without any idea of what I’m getting myself into. I’ve had the privilege to meet with experienced professionals from my field of work who took the time to explain to me their work and how to get there. I feel that through them, I am approaching success.

I’m starting to wonder- does the difference between being stagnant and being progressive depend on self? It sounds selfish and vain to say so, but I’m proud of my ability to pick myself up again no matter what I’ve been through. Sure I’ve got friends, family, and others I’ve encountered help me along the way, but I find their actions and words don’t mean anything unless I can interpret them correctly and use them to move forward. Most importantly, all this good change happened after I reconnected with God. I feel God understood my troubles and showed me that I was never stagnant, and that nobody living life is stagnant, they are, just like me, continuously moving.

xpresare:

It makes me proud to be living in a country that punishes those that carry such a harmful mentality and practice against women. The amount of media attention towards this crime raises awareness towards this issue and the fact that it sparked such a frenzy of responses from majority of Canadians that shunned this crime, is a proof that gender inequality is generally frowned upon. However, there is still so much to be done on the part of society and government to completely eliminate gender inequality.

This article about some men vowing to marry rape victims in Syria is heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. It reminds me of a conversation I had with Valerie about how it is up to the men to put a stop to gender inequality in less developed countries. It is unfortunate that there are still societies in the world that think it is morally right or obligatory to kill women because of a flawed sense of honour. This cycle of brutality cannot be stopped unless all people, regardless of gender, race, or class, is educated with the same type of education that preaches social justice. Although I believe globalization has its positives and negatives, I count the spread of gender equality as a positive. Ultimately, it is up to the men of the new generation in less developed countries to do the noble, chivalrous duty of protecting women so that gender inequality can be a thing of the past.
